Ballot information

We established the Climate Change Communicator of the Year award in 2009 to honor a person — or an organization — who most successfully used communication to engage the public in the issue of climate change. Bud Ward, a highly accomplished environmental journalist and educator, received the honor in 2009.

We ask that you help us determine the 2010 honorees: both an individual and an organization.

The individual nominees are:

  • Rhett Butler, Founder and Editor, Mongabay.com, a conservation news web site with a focus on tropical forests. (Nominated by Erica Gies)
  • Howard Frumkin, Director, National Center for Environmental Health and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (Nominated by John Balbus)
  • Jason Samenow, Environmental Scientist, Climate Change Division,U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. (Nominated by Kevin Rosseel)
  • Tom Yulsman, Co-Director of the Center for Environmental Journalism, University of Colorado School of Journalism & Mass Communication. (Nominated by Bud Ward)

The organizational nominees are:

  • BBC World Service Trust, the BBC's international development charity whose mission is to use the media to reduce poverty and promote human rights. (Nominated by Susanne Moser)
  • Cool the Earth, a non-profit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, that offers a climate change awareness program to schools. (Nominated by Torri Estrada)
