Lia Zakiyyah

Lia is the Doctoral Presidential Scholar at the Communication Department at George Mason University, USA. She is also Graduate Research Assistant at Mason Centre for Climate Change Communication and starting Fall 2023, is also teaching an undergraduate level Fundamental in Communication Course. She was trained as a Climate Reality Leader at the Climate Reality Project Indonesia. Her research focus on the field of climate change and social movement, especially among youth.

She worked at the Office of the President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change 2015-2019. She has been trained as a Climate Reality Leader at Climate Reality, an organization led by Hon. Al Gore, former US Vice President. She has been involved in various initiatives related to environment and climate change nationally and globally. She has represented Indonesia in several international conferences, speaking about low-carbon development and climate resilient future.

She has a mission to contribute to solve climate crisis through better communication to the public, engaging young people to be more active politically to demand more climate actions from the government and companies. She is a keen urban gardener and a beekeeper, obsessed composter, enthusiastic drummer and a Latin dancer.
