Katie received her M.S. in science communication from the University of California, Santa Cruz and her B.A. in environmental studies from California State University, Monterey Bay. Before pursuing a career in environmental journalism, she worked as a field biologist in Alaska and interdisciplinary researcher conserving sacred forests in Ethiopia. Katie has experience meeting daily deadlines at local newspapers, contributing to weekly broadcasts in community radio and writing about scientific breakthroughs for academic research institutions. As she continues developing her skills as a multimedia storyteller, Katie intends to investigate environmental justice issues at the intersection of social equity and ecological health.
